Bromley Ladies pick up 4-1 win at Luton

  • Women's

Bromley Ladies returned to winning ways at the weekend with a 4-1 away from home against Luton Town Development.

Bromley started the game strongly and dominated the opening period. The Ravens opened the scoring after ten minutes when Rafferty was hacked down inside the box after turning her defender and Bays stepped up to convert the resulting penalty. Wingers Robertson and Donovon continued to create chances for the forwards and Rafferty went close to doubling the lead but her shot went just wide. Bromley took route one for goal number two. A long kick from goalkeeper Higginson, allowed to bounce by the Luton defenders, was picked up by Bays who ran to the corner of the penalty box before looping a shot over the goalkeeper into the far top corner. Bromley were 3-0 moments later when a deep free kick was only partially cleared and the ball fell to Cannon twenty five yards out who hit a first time shot into the top corner for her first Bromley goal.

Luton started the second half the brightest but solid defending from Bromley limited the home sides chances. Luton look dangerous from set pieces but Higginson was commanded her six yard box catching or punching away everything. Bromley got a fourth goal after Bays was played into the channel by Cundy before the forward found the inside of the far post with a shot across the keeper. Luton did manage to get one goal back after a collision between Higginson and striker left both players injured inside the box but play, to Bromley’s dismay, was allowed to continue and Luton passed the ball square and a shot from twelve yards found the back of the net despite Davies best efforts to clear it off the line. Luton gained confidence but blocks from Davies and Morris kept them at bay. Bromley almost added further goals courtesy of substitutes Spinks and Dyer who both saw shots narrowly pass the post.

Bromley’s first home game of the season is next weekend against Enfield Town.
