Ladies: Battersea 1-4 Bromley

  • Women's

This was a must win game for Bromley with both teams on equal points at the start of play. Bromley started brightly on a difficult bobbly pitch and created several chances. Bays finally broke the dead lock after latching onto a ball over the top from Spinks and was able to lob the out rushing keeper into an empty net.

Bromley looked to double their lead as Rolfe, May and Rafferty all forced fine saves from the Battersea keeper.

The second goal came after Bays’ shot was push out by the keeper, and it was Robertson who reacted quickest to strike home from 12 yards. Bromley defence well marshalled any Battersea attacks, restricting the hosts to long range efforts which did not trouble the goal, in fact Higginson did not have a save to make in the first half.
However, at the start of the second half she was called into action, diving full length to her right to palm away a goal bound effort from the edge of the box. This spurred Bromley into action who had started the second half a little sluggish. The third goal came when Bays powerfully headed home a Robertson corner.

The forth and final goal for Bromley came just 5 minutes later, after a Donovan chipped free kick into the box was headed past the keeper by Bays to complete her hat-trick.

Battersea got a consolation goal after persistent play in the box by their striker allowed her to strike home from 8yds.

Bromley tried to restore their 4 goal advantage and had an effort from Holley ruled out for handball. Donovan, Holley and Rafferty all had efforts but it was Robertson who came closest seeing her half volley from wide outside the box cannon off the crossbar.

The victory sees Bromley move into 6th in what is a tight bottom half of the table.
