Bromley FC reached their third consecutive Kent FA Womens Plate final with a hard fought victory over Cray Valley.
The first fifteen minutes were scrappy but Bromley had the first chance when Higginson, who was playing on pitch instead of in goal, had an effort cleared off the line from a corner. Cray created chances and Tyler in goal made two fine saves in quick succession, the second bravely pouncing on a loose ball at the feet of the striker. Her clearance found Rolfe in the middle of the pitch who played a ball through the defence into the path of Holley who was able to flick the ball past the advancing keeper to give Bromley the lead. Soon after a run from Bays down the right led to a Bromley corner, taken by Robertson leading to a blocked shot falling into Higginson’s path who was able to lift the ball into the corner of the goal to double the lead.
Cray Valley got the perfect start to the second half winning an early penalty after a ball over the top found their striker who was brought down by Tyler in goal. The penalty was calmly converted leading to a nervy period for Bromley. However Bromley regained their composure and had chances to extend their lead, the best falling to Bays who after finding her way past the defence was only able to shoot wide. Some brave defending in the final minutes saw Bromley earn the victory giving them the opportunity to retain their title.
