On a damp, but sunny Sunday Bromley FC Women took on Steyning Town Community FC at Hayes Lane. It was their first home league game under Dean Davenport and they showed great teamwork to dominate the match.Steyning Town started proceedings, with Bromley having the sun in their eyes for the first half. Steyning had the first shot, but it was easily caught by the Megan Taylor in Bromley’s goal. The Ravens then dominated possession and on 13 minutes, a pass from Jade Davenport to skipper Charlotte Lee gave Bromley their first goal. Steyning rarely ventured into Bromley’s half apart from one attack which came to nothing as the Bromley keeper made an easy catch.
A microlight nearby was keeping an eye on the action above to see a good run from Beth Hull to score the second goal, a screamer from 20 yards out. The third followed a goal-mouth tussle when the Ravens hit the bar and the ball came back nicely for debutant, Phoebe Murton to tap it in. Steyning tried but another attack was thwarted by the host’s goalkeeper. Two minutes later, goal number four came from a cross from Mercedes Bromfield to Murton to make it a brace for the Number three. The Hayes Lane crowd didn’t have to wait long for Bromley’s fifth when Bryony Hart set up Beth Hull for her second goal of the match.Bromley came out strongly for the second half, and within five minutes of the restart, Phoebe Murton completed her dream debut scoring a hat-trick and Bromley’s sixth goal! Bromley made several changes, but the team stayed strong and continued to play well. After 60 mins, Charlotte Lee netted again after a mazey run from Jade Davenport. The visitors had limited chances, and a fabulous two minutes near the end of the 90 saw another two goals. Maddie Bone fired in the eighth, quickly followed by lovely play between Hull, Lee and Bovill saw goal number nine to Ellie Bovill. The crowd started to talk about whether we would see a tenth goal, and with Bromley still pushing, goal ten came following a corner at 82 minutes for Maddie Bone. A rare chance for Steyning was pushed out for a corner before the resulting set piece was well dealt with by Megan Taylor. Bromley played well until the final whistle for a great 10-0 win.
