Youth Academy: Bromley Under 15s win JPL title

  • Youth Academy

Saturday saw the Bromley Under 15 JPL Youth Academy side make the short trip to Princes Park to play local rivals, Dartford, in a game that would all but clinch the JPL National league title. There was also a case for ‘putting to bed’ a 4-1 home defeat earlier the season, which was the squad’s only real blip in what has been an excellent season.

Despite some early pressure from the home side it was Bromley who took the lead, and it came through centre back Bryant, following a well delivered set piece. Dartford then continued to press and the equaliser came early in the second quarter from a corner. Bromley moved up a gear for the remainder of the half, firstly with McLellan (a constant threat in attack) winning a penalty which captain, Turner, calmly slotted home, before Burnett extended the lead, ensuring Bromley were 3-1 up at the break.

Dartford pulled a goal back in the third quarter to ensure that Bromley would have go the full distance in order to hang on to the points. A tense 20 minutes followed but Bromley deservedly came out on top to ensure that a point from their final two games would be all that was needed to secure the league title.

The day became even better when news filtered through that Basingstoke had beaten Dunstable South, meaning that the single point was no longer necessary, and Bromley had won the title in their first full JPL season. The squad’s focus now turns to their JPL Trophy final against Kettering Town on Saturday 12th May, to be played at Cirencester FC.

First team manager Neil Smith was delighted for the young Ravens, commenting “This is a fantastic achievement from a very impressive squad of players, who I watched in their league game against St Neots last week. The club has some very exciting talent coming through the ranks”.
